MY STORY
Megan Martin (Bachelor Physical Education Hons 1, Diploma of Teaching, Diploma of Career Guidance, Certificate in Applied Neuroscience and Brain Health)
I’m closer to 50 than 40 and like anyone who has made it this far, I’ve had my share of life-changing experiences and significant events, such as the Christchurch earthquakes. These have shaped and changed the course of my life and that of my community. I guess I’m at the point where I’m well into the ‘second half’ of life that I realise that it’s all gone so fast. I have no regrets, but I do want to make everyday count and to live an authentic life that is in line with my beliefs and values. You get to a stage when you realise that fulfillment comes from contribution and service to others through your mission and purpose. It breaks my heart in my job as a teacher to witness first hand the struggles our community and society have in regards to mental health. I keep asking the question why when we live in the most beautiful country in the world and we have so many opportunities compared to previous generations, why are we so sad? This is my little attempt to do some good and help others. So ‘Live Up To You’ is for me an idea, a mission, a vision, a purpose that challenges me to try and be the best version of myself I can be. Feel free to try a ‘Live Up To You’ challenge or adapt and make it your own. All I can offer is my enthusiasm, my story and the gift of this resource and hope that maybe, just maybe it might help someone. If someone sees an idea, tries it and it helps them to be more of themselves, then that would be pretty cool. One little positive step at a time and who knows instead of the question “why are we so sad?” maybe I’ll be asking “why are we so happy?”
So go ahead ‘Live Up To You’ and try your own health and wellness challenge.
