9. Nature Calls
‘Live Up to You’ 2020 Project
For the ‘Live Up To You’ 2020 project we post one little wellbeing idea/suggestion/technique each week that you and your friends are welcome to self-experiment with in your life and see how it works for you. This wellbeing strategy is about getting out and about in nature.
Here is a self-experimental template you are welcome to use.
Living in New Zealand we are blessed with what former Prime MInister Richard Seddon called ‘God’s Own Country’ as it is truly beautiful with spectacular natural landscapes, lush greenery and protected areas untouched by the influence of modern man. BUT………………………. when you live in it you can take it for granted and you can go for days without taking a little time to enjoy the natural environment.
It is underestimated how a walk outside in nature can make us feel so good. It is such an easy wellbeing hack/strategy that it is often overlooked because we get caught up in our busy lives.
How many of us deliberately make sure we get a little bit of outside everyday?
There is a wealth of research around the benefits of being outside that just reinforce what most of us already know, which is, after we have been outside moving in nature we feel better than we did before. So why don’t you do your own self-experiment? Try to deliberately schedule getting outside in nature for 10 minutes (or more) for a walk or a play and just see if you feel better afterwards. Do it for a week and you be the judge if this is a wellbeing strategy that works for you.
Below are some images that I’ve taken when out and about enjoying what my backyard has to offer. The beauty of taking these pictures is I get to enjoy the wellbeing benefits twice, firstly in the moment of being in nature and secondly looking back. You could take your own snaps on your nature journey!
