The Gift That Keeps On Giving

For the ‘Live Up To You’ 2020 project we post one little wellbeing idea/suggestion/technique each week that you and your friends are welcome to self-experiment with in your life and see how it works for you. This wellbeing strategy is giving the presence of your presence, the ‘Gift of Time’.

Here are some ticket templates you are welcome to use:

Is it the thought that counts?

In a world where we seem to always want more than what we have and we are constantly comparing ourselves to others the pressure to give that ‘special’ gift is amplified.

So what do we give someone that we really care about?

What about the ‘gift of time.’ Presence instead of presents. Regardless of financial circumstances we all have the power to give the most precious gift of all which is ‘time’. This is our most valuable resource and once spent, we never get it back.

So, I’m experimenting with presence versus presents for my son’s 14th birthday. Yes, I have bought a few material things but the big gift is the ‘gift that keeps on giving’ which is his 14-trip experience ticket. To celebrate turning 14, he gets to choose over the next year 14 experiences where we spend time together. This can be just with me or it can include rest of the family.

The rules for the 14-trip experience ticket are:

  • it’s not about money it’s about being together sharing experiences (it needs to be affordable)

  • no phones unless for taking pictures and videos

  • we all need to wear our CAPs, which is, an acronym for being CURIOUS, AVAILABLE and PRESENT

  • enjoy and have fun

If you would like to try this idea. Here are some Live Up To You ‘Gift of Time’ ticket templates that you are welcome to use.
