The 5 Gs of GREAT
Growth, Gratitude, Give, God and Grit
(poem for my students)
Now class, I want you to remember the 5 G’s.
The best version of yourselves is what I want you to be.
What does this mean you ask?
Well class, I’ll explain, it’s an easy task.
Having an open mindset will help you GROW,
Kill those ants (automatic negative thoughts) and you never know.
Your world might start to open up,
Opportunities and challenges to fill your cup.
Be in the moment of everyday,
Be curious, ask questions, find your own way.
Live a life full of joy, wonder and awe.
And if you do, you will never be poor.
Don’t hide your emotions and stow them away,
Or they will explode out and ruin your day.
Accept who you are, your thoughts and beliefs.
You get to choose what you express from beneath.
You need to be able to care for yourself,
A balanced wellbeing is good for your health.
Look after your body, you only get one,
Exercise, sleep, eat well and a little sun.
Here is a concept that may be quite new,
The world does not revolve around you.
Connect with others, not just your friends,
Listen to understand, make amends.
Help people out, show them you care,
Supported by others, we don’t live in fear,
Offer your service and be prepared to GIVE,
Share your talents and skills and truly live.
Giving thanks from the heart is called GRATITUDE,
Noticing and appreciating is the attitude.
“Thank you, Thank you”, it’s not hard to say.
But feeling appreciated goes along way.
Take time to think about the things you have got,
Food, shelter, opportunities, education, it is a lot.
Don’t take them for granted, they’re not a given.
They come from somebody working for a living.
Failure is learning, so be prepared for mistakes.
Making you stronger, you will not break!
Having resilience means you’ll bounce back.
Especially, when life pushes you off track.
So take the falls, stand back up
Brush yourself off, success is not luck.
It’s the little things you do everyday,
2 steps forward, 1 back but you are on the way.
You need courage and passion to achieve hard things,
GRIT is what it takes and it doesn’t have bling!
Hard work and perseverance over a long time.
Effort and focus, it’s a really challenging climb.
In the life we live, nothing is free,
So be the best version of yourself you can be!
There are ups and downs, it won’t be smooth,
Believe in yourself and you will find your groove.
No matter where you are, you’ll always have GOD,
So put away your phone which is nicknamed DODD.
This phone you carry puts you into Digital Overload,
Distraction and Dementia it’s a rocky road.
Put away your phone and connect with real life,
Enjoy the journey, the struggle and the strife.
Life's for living not watching a screen,
That phone is holding you back and limiting your dreams.
Our time has now come to an end,
Who knows what lies around the next bend.
If you have faith, hope and love your heart will be full.
Being a lifelong learner is pretty cool.
