9. 'HIIT' and I Missed Exercise Programme

High Intensity Interval Training

I am a good trainer when it comes to endurance training with a strong history of competing in mountain running and biking events. So I thought it would be easy if I just added a super simple, 10 minute High Intensity Interval Training routine to build up a bit of dynamic strength fitness. What a disaster this challenge turned out to be!!!

All I had to do was 8 simple whole-body exercises such as push-ups, burpees, and jump-squats. I had planned to apply the ‘tabata’ training method which for this programme was 20 seconds for each exercise then 10 seconds rest. This set was to be repeated again but with a full minute rest in between. The total workout time was only 9 minutes. I started off with a ‘hiss and a roar’ for about three days but do you think I could keep it up? I just simply didn’t do it. I didn’t fully commit and I didn’t plan it into my day so this challenge was a fail. What was the lesson? Some challenges I think should be easy are really hard. I will try this one again but I know I need to plan, commit and see it through.
