Rose, Thorn and Bud- A Mindful Way to Reflect by Steffi Post

In response to COVID-19 the ‘Live Up’ COVID COMMUNITY was set up to support our communities with practical wellbeing resources that can be used for these extraordinary circumstances of social distancing, community lockdown and quarantine. This article is from Steffi Post and it is based around ‘Taking Notice’ one of the 5 Ways of Wellbeing.

Notice

Taking the opportunity to reflect on the beauty and challenges of everyday life. This will help you to appreciate what matters to you and keep you in the ‘present moment’

This article depicts this strategy as something that is done at the end of the school year, however this is something that can be done at the end of every day.

When working in an American Style summer camp on the Adriatic Coast in Croatia in 2016, this is an activity I did every night in the cabin with my group of girls before lights went out. They all expressed this process as being a meaningful reflection and something they looked forward to each day.

My house has created a ‘Conquer the week planner’. On this planner we write a ‘quote of the day’,  ideas of what we would like to do over the next 4 weeks, and each reflect on our rose and thorn of the day (a ‘bud’ of the day is an easy addition).

This has already become a conversation starter with loved ones- family and friends- when we Connect (another 5 ways to wellbeing area) over video chat.
