HumanKINDness 'Ripple Effect' Challenge

In response to COVID-19 the ‘Live Up’ COVID COMMUNITY was set up to support our communities with practical wellbeing resources that can be used for these extraordinary circumstances of social distancing, community lockdown and quarantine. This article looks at the ‘giving’ aspect of the 5 ways to wellbeing.

The HumanKINDness ‘Ripple Effect’ story was recorded by TV 1 reporter Rachel Parkin and is titled “Christchurch Kids Harnessing the Power of Generosity”. This was aired on March 20 and can be viewed on the ‘Live Up To You’ facebook page and on the this link Seven Sharp Website.

HumanKINDness and COVID

The week after the anniversary of the Mosque Shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand, the Marian College Student Wellbeing Team ran a HumanKINDness ‘Ripple Effect’ Challenge. The students were all given a HumanKINDness ‘Ripple Effect’ card and challenged to do a kind act for their families, who in turn, were encouraged to pay the act of kindness forward and leave the kindness card for their chosen recipient (creating a ‘Ripple Effect’).

As the week progressed the reality of the Global Pandemic started to take hold and we had to rethink how we can be kind during a COVID-19 Global Pandemic.

Our story was recorded by TV 1 reporter Rachel Parkin and is titled “Christchurch Kids Harnessing the Power of Generosity”. This was aired on March 20 and can be viewed on the ‘Live Up To You’ facebook page and on the this link Seven Sharp website.

Human KINDness ‘Ripple Effect’ Challenge

We want to take positive action to live in a world that is kind and caring no matter what the circumstances. Kindness acts are the way we show love (aroha) and manaakitanga (caring, compassion and hospitality) to each other. At a time when there is uncertainty in our lives it helps to focus on the things we can do, rather than the things that are out of our control. What we all can do is be kind to ourselves and to others. Look after your own health as the world needs healthy people so they can help others. Focus on ‘caremongering instead of scaremongering’

  • Once you have completed your kind act leave the HumanKINDness ‘Ripple Effect’ card so they can pay the kindness forward and the leave the card for someone else. This creates the ‘Ripple Effect’.
